Literacy and reading form an integral part of our everyday curriculum at Mapplewell. We firmly believe that reading is the key to being a successful writer and therefore alongside our Early Reading Approach (Phonics) and Reading Approach (LIRA) we aim to inspire our pupils to read for pleasure. We use the accelerated learning cycle approach in all literacy lessons to ensure pupils are highly engaged, challenged and supported through manageable chunks of learning, promoting rapid progress. Wherever possible we link literacy lessons to the class theme or topic following an exciting hook to fully engage and enthuse our pupils.

We use the Read, Write, Inc phonics scheme.
