At Mapplewell Primary School, a dedicated Oracy session takes place every Friday. During this time, pupils are presented with carefully designed open-ended questions that enable them to practise the Voice 21 strategies for speaking and listening in a range of collaborative contexts.

Throughout the Autumn term, teachers created engaging and motivating questions that allowed pupils to concentrate on developing their oracy skills and applying the variety of strategies (shown below), ensuring these became securely embedded within everyday classroom practice.

In the Spring term, subject leaders further strengthened this approach by designing subject-specific questions for each key stage, ensuring that oracy is meaningfully integrated across the curriculum and into the Summer term.
